Desiccant quantity calculation

How many desiccant units you need per packaging depends on various factors that are set in relation to each other. The following DIN formula is used for this:

(DIN 55 474) n = (1/a) × (V × b + m × c + A × e × WDD × t)

n =Number of desiccant units
a =Amount of water that can be absorbed per desiccant unit according to the maximum permissible humidity inside the packaging: permissible final humidity 20 %, a=3; permissible final humidity 40 %, a=6; permissible final humidity 50 %, a=7; permissible final humidity 60 %, a=8
e =Correction factor related to the permissible final humidity in %: permissible final humidity 20 %, e=0.9; permissible final humidity 40 %, e=0.7; permissible final humidity 50 %, e=0.65; permissible final humidity 60 %, e=0.6
V =Interior volume of the packaging in m³
b =Moisture content of the enclosed air in g/m³
m =Mass of the hygroscopic packaging aids in kg
c =Factor for the moisture content of the hygroscopic packaging aids in g/kg
A =Surface of the barrier film in m²
WDD =Water vapour permeability of the barrier film for the expected climate in g/m²d, measured according to DIN 53 122 part 1 or part 2 (d = day)
t =Total transport duration in days
