FAQ

Frequently asked questions about desiccant dosing

How much desiccant does a 20 ft container need?

As a guide value: around 6 kg of calcium chloride desiccant for a standard four-week voyage in a temperate climate. Tropical routes, longer transit times and hygroscopic cargo increase the demand — our calculator gives you a quick estimate.

Is too much desiccant a problem?

For almost all cargo, no. Over-drying is practically impossible with container desiccants; the common and costly mistake is underdosing. When in doubt, round up — the desiccant costs a fraction of a single damaged pallet.

Where should desiccants be placed in the container?

Distributed along the full length of the container, not just at the doors: hung on the lashing rings, laid on top of the cargo or placed in the door area — depending on the product format. Photo documentation before sealing is recommended.
